Simple squares

We've been chatting at K&N for a while now about the possibility of making a simple quilt. I brought in a list of Moda Charm packs on Tuesday for the ladies to look at and choose one they might like. A few ladies had never seen a charm pack, or what you might do with it. So, here is a photo of a throw I made for my eldest sons bed, using a charm pack for the central panel. The list will be at K&N tonight, so if you want to have a go, there is still time to order.

Just popping In

Good morning everyone, just wanted to pop in and wish all of you with a birthday on or around this weekend a very happy one. Sue T, Sue R and Tina, to name a few - many happy returns.

 

 
I couldn't resist taking this picture of Jane the other day. Some how she's managed to co-ordinate what she's wearing with what she's making. Genius!! I struggle to get matching socks on.

 
As a few of you will know I took Lewie to see Olly Murs at Plymouth last night. It was Olly's birthday too and so there was definitely a party atmosphere from the word go. He may not be the worlds best singer but he can certainly entertain. A great night.

 
And finally this morning the sun is shining and the moor has a generous smattering of wild orchids. I hope you enjoy your day - birthday or not.

Sensational Silk

This past weekend we were lucky enough to have local silk artist Isabella Whitworth come and host a workshop for us. The technique used was similar to tie & dye and is called Shibori. Here is how we got on.

then the silk peices were stretched out , twisted tightly..........

 
and bound tightly with waxed string.

 
Then came the fun part of beginning to drop the ink onto the little segments created by the string.

 
An aray of colours were used on each scarves, to suit individual tastes.

 
They were then wrapped in foil parcels and Isabella took them home to steam them for 2 hours.

 
Then on Tuesday we had the grand unveiling. Even Dave the dog came to watch as the string was cut and the unravelling began.

 
Tah dah!

 

 

 

Everyone was very impressed & its definitely one we'd do again.

Cushy number

This week we host our Cushions Exhibition. A display of knitted or crocheted cushions made by the lovely ladies who regularly attend our knit & natter session.

On display within the shop will be an array of skills from the first time crocheted cushion cover to the accomplished knitted & felted design - and everything in between.

If you are in Hatherleigh this week, please do pop in and take a look. You may even be inspired to make your own.

Bunting Workshop

This Saturday is our long awaited crocheted bunting workshop. Come along and make beautiful bunting to hang in your garden, house or maybe around your tent on a summer holiday.

The price for the session is £3, plus your choice of yarns. I have made mine in cotton, which lends itself well to this project, and has a sensible price of about £2 per 50g ball.

 

I haven't strung them together yet, so that I can show you how to do that too.

Anyone who has kindly made a cushion for our exhibition, please could you bring them to K&N on Thursday or drop them into the shop on Saturday. THANK YOU.

Corsages

 

There are some workshops which are just so much fun and everyone has a really lovely time. This was one of them.

This Saturday our workshop is satin flower corsages. We start at 2pm and the cost is £8.00. You can make corsages for your coat, your hair, to tie around your wrist, onto presents, give as gifts - the list is endless. A useful trick to know how to do!

Everything is provided - you just need to decide which colours you're going to use.........................

Crochet Workshop

 
This Saturday we're holding another beginners crochet workshop, in the shop at 2pm. All welcome.

As a complete beginner you will learn how to make a granny square, which you can make as large as you wish, and turn into a cushion cover or blanket. Hook & first ball of yarn will be provided and the cost is £7.50.

 
If you've been to a crochet workshop before, you'll now have the basic knowledge needed to create

 
a garden square, like the one above or a  cobweb sqaure like the one below and I'll show you how to do these. Cost to second crochet workshop visitors £5.
