It seems a while since I've blogged. Not sure what my excuse is?? It's not as if stuff hasn't been happening, or stock hasn't been arriving. We've lots of new bits & pieces in, ready for your Christmas shopping to start. You wont be the first, many are already ahead of us. How smug they'll feel later on when we're all running around like loonies!

Lots of people are making gifts this year, for which Ihave to applaud them. Surely this is the true essence of giving, handing over something you've put your heart and sole into, with just that one recipient in mind. Lovely.

I'd be happy to be on the receiving end of any of the pretty little lavender bags the ladies made at the workshop on Saturday.........

It was a lovely afternoon, the sun shone in through the windows (in fact we'd to open the door it was so warm, not bad for 15th October!) and the conversation flowed as we all relaxed, breathing in the lavender fragrance . Heavenly!

 

Recently Knit & Natter also celebrated it's 2nd birthday.......

Sue blew out the candles for us. We can always squeeze in  a couple more people, so if you'd like to join us and begin making your Christmas presents, just come along, Tuesdays or Thursday evenings 7.30pm.

I haven't blogged for a day or two, so here's what's been going on.

Oh dear!, we just can't get enough of this rippin n stickin workshop.

 
But many walls around the town & beyond will be all the prettier for the decopatch words created today.

 
Sue T has been working very hard and has finished her rag rug. It's very pretty & very Sue.

 
This was a stunning rainbow over the moor yesterday evening. I could see both ends, which is quite unusual, but couldn't photograph both on my phone.

What ever you're doing I hope you enjoy the Bank Holiday.

 

 

Cover story

Cover stories were the order of the day today at our workshop for removable slip covers, for journal and diaries.

It was generally agreed that it was lovely to be able to do a bit of uninterrupted sewing. Most people managed to finish their cover, with just one or two taking them home to complete.

Here's what we made.....

 
Country bunting made this such a pretty cover.

 
Made for her animal loving granddaughter, these pussy cats are sure to raise a smile.

 
All of the covers were lined with contrasting fabrics.

 
This cover had a cute little slot for a pen.

 
Not quite finished, but you know it's going to be useful with its pockets and tapes.

 
With more than a nod to Cath Kidston, this cover is going to be a really girly delight.

 

Busy girls

Firstly I must show you what Chrissie's granddaughter Isabelle did on Sunday..................................
She knitted her little owl a jumper. How cute does she look? (both the owl & Issy)

Her Granny was busy too. Chrissie managed to find time to whip up a lovely quilt using the Moda charm packs as a starting point..........

 
A pretty quilt with a very Cath Kidston feel.

Maureen has been busy too. Popping into our Monday morning drop in sessions for a wee bit of guidance, she's managed to make this fab quilt.......................

 
The charm pack was called Hullabaloo, which really appealed to Maureen and I think she's done a great job of putting it all together.

Well done girls. I'm looking forward to seeing your next ones.

Bags & bags of style

I have a confession to make. I forgot to take pictures during today's workshop- aaaarrrggghhh!!!

I'm so sorry girls, your bags looked absolutely lovely too. Far nicer than mine, which all I was left with at the end when I remembered. I must just say a special blog congratulations to Chrissie's granddaughter Isabelle, who made by far the best bag. Apologies for not photographing it.

 
Here are my bags - as you can imagine they can be all sizes and are really strong too. Recycling at it's best.

On Screen

Once again C.A. was a hive of activity this weekend when we held a screen printing workshop.

 
Tea towels were laid out, screens chosen and inks applied.

Stained glass Sunday

Following our visit from local stained glass artist Nikki Coombs, last year, we were eager to have her back again. This time we thought it would be fun to make some glass bunting, threaded together with pretty ribbon. Here are a couple of pictures of how we got on.

 
The ladies chose their colours, cut them into triangles and wrapped the edges in copper wire. Out with the soldering iron and tah dah...........................

 
 
That was just a few of the things made. As you can see not everyone stuck to the bunting theme but everyone had a lovely day and are all keen for Nikki to return.

 

Buttons & Beads

We are getting very good at enjoying a bit of creative R&R on a Saturday afternoons!

This one was spent squashing, rolling and shaping Fimo clay

I've said it before.......

But I'll say it again - You can't beat a afternoon of ripping & sticking.

 
And that's just what we did this Saturday, when we decopatched some flowers to brighten our homes & gardens.

Getting messy, drinking tea & having a laugh. That's what Saturday afternoons were meant for.

Sensational Silk

This past weekend we were lucky enough to have local silk artist Isabella Whitworth come and host a workshop for us. The technique used was similar to tie & dye and is called Shibori. Here is how we got on.

 
Isabella explained what we were going to do....

 
then the silk peices were stretched out , twisted tightly..........

 
and bound tightly with waxed string.

 
Then came the fun part of beginning to drop the ink onto the little segments created by the string.

 
An aray of colours were used on each scarves, to suit individual tastes.

 
They were then wrapped in foil parcels and Isabella took them home to steam them for 2 hours.

 
Then on Tuesday we had the grand unveiling. Even Dave the dog came to watch as the string was cut and the unravelling began.

 
Tah dah!

 

 

 

Everyone was very impressed & its definitely one we'd do again.
