HOME SEWN - perfect projects for cold wet days.

Home Sewn is an inspirational book, full of lovely projects, for which it includes all the necessary patterns. I love the vintage look of this wall hanging. Such a pretty way to be organised! The wash bag in the bottom photo is a useful and attractive make too. Ideal to sew on a day like today, cold & wet, when all we can do is dream of our summer holidays.

Flowers, beautiful flowers....

Many of you will know that today I had an appointment with a wholesale florist, with a view to adding flowers to the shops selection of goodies.
It all went very well, and I think we'll have a go and see what the response is like. These beautiful hyacinths (below) caught my eye, so we had to have some of those, as did the selection of spring flowers (above) which would cheer any soul feeling that winter may never end! The little narcissus have such a pretty scent, which can only add to their appeal. My house is never without flowers. A bit like my chickens. I just can't imagine life without them!

Heavenly Scents.

The scent in the shop last night for a our fortnightly Knit & Natter session was divine. These gorgeous candles arrived yesterday and just HAD to be sited next to our desk. The hyacinth is to die for! I wanted to fling the shop door open and fill Hatherleigh with the scent of spring flowers. I have no hesitation in saying they are on a par with Diptyque candles but for a lot less money! I wish computer screens were scratch & sniff so I could share the scent with you.

Visitors

Today was a busy day in the shop. Half term has brought some new faces into Hatherleigh. I love meeting these people, chatting & finding out where they're from and what they think of Devon. A selection of children filtered through today too, all of them extremely well behaved and cheerfully tolerating their mums indulgences in a 'girly shop'.
New people invariably bring new ideas too, and todays top tip has to go to a lady called Jenny who bought a selection of very pretty fabric pieces. When i quizzed her (as I do!) about what purpose she had in mind for them, she told me she always wraps gifts in fabric. Not only that but she includes a simple pattern to make something from the fabric. What a brilliant idea. As she says, the paper just gets thrown away but the fabric can be turned into a useful something, from a napkin to a little bag, depending on the recipients talents. Far more environmentally sound too.

Garden Insects

I thought you might like to see these little hand painted tiles. The collection is called 'Garden' and features various insects. They can either be cemented in amongst wall tiles, or hung from a little attached hook as an indoor decoration. Very pretty and at £3.99 a perfect little gift too.

There can't by many of us who aren't fans of Cath Kidston's fabulous fabrics and designs. Recently she branched into publishing craft books too, with the launch of her book MAKE, which it has to be said, was something of a disappointment. Her latest book, SEW, however,  is nothing but a joy.
This little beauty is packed full of delightful projects for around the home. Including templates and clear instructions, you could be knocking up anything from a shower cap to a bird mobile, or a hotwater bottle cover. Also included are a number of bag patterns, and best of all, the inside front cover has all you need - yes, fabric included! to make the bag on the front cover. Even the little sew-in Cath Kidston label is included. Priced at £14.99 this is a book that I highly recommend. Available from Crafty Angel, of course!
