Did you see any signs of summer this weekend?

No!, I bet you didn't. What a dreadful weekend it was. When I scheduled our workshop - Butterfly garland, back in February I had visions of a beautiful sunny spring day, ready to take us gently in May. Not a chance!

Anyway, that didn't stop us making a highly attractive 'rabble' of butterflies that any Tropical World would die for!

Alcohol inks out, pads loaded and the process began.

Soon the butterflies were emerging,

and we began assembling them,

Before stringing them together to make the garland.

A little hint of summer to hang in your home. Lovely.

Fabric & cord

That was all we needed on Saturday to make some really pretty & functional bowls.

We started by cutting long strips of fabric about 1" wide and wrapping them around piping cord.

Then it was time to make a little coil to start the whole thing off

Adding more fabric strips as we went along

Then it was time to tip the flat 'mat' up and keep sewing.................

And as if by magic the bowl begins to take shape

and then Tah dah! a finished bowl just crying out to be filled with lemons, ready for your G&T!

Not all the bowls were finished by the end of the day, but the ladies didn't have far to go.....

Aren't they all going to be great?

This morning I had a play with some coloured string and whilst it was extremely time consuming it works pretty well.

Monday 16th April - Embossing Powder Fun. Come & have a play with embossing powders & rubber stamps. £5  10am - 12noon  (booking not necessary)

Saturday 21st April - Fabric & Rope bowl. Your own sewing machine is required. Please email for more details.

Sunday 29th April - Butterfly Garland. Using alcohol inks to decorate paper butterflies to string onto a garland. limited space available. £10 

Monday 30th April - Metal Stamping. Using our metal alphabet stamps make a unique pendant. Booking required £5. 10am - 12 noon.

Saturday 5th May - Mixed Media Canvas. With a starting point of die cut flowers make a piece of art as individual as you are. booking required. £12. 2pm

Monday 14th May - Shrink Plastic Buttons. A fun morning rediscovering this amazing material and making buttons to decorated clothing etc. Booking advisable. £5. 10am - 12 noon.

Saturday 19th May - Felted Pebble Soap. An easy introduction to wet felting. You will wrap merino tops around a soap and work it together to form a pebble shape, making a gorgeous lathery soap with exfoliating benefits. Booking required £10. 2pm. please bring a hand towel.

Monday 21st May - Magazine Bows. Learn how to knock up a bow to decorate a gift, using old magazine. £4 Booking not required. 10am - 12 noon.

Saturday 26th May - Beautiful Bunting.It will be time to hang up the patriotic bunting all across the land. Ours will be lovely enough to leave up all year. Using disguarded old books and crepe paper, this is bunting with a difference. Booking required £8.50  2pm

Monday 28th May - Bunting greetings cards. As bunting fever grips, come along and make some pretty bunting cards to send to friends & family. Booking advisable. £5  10am - 12noon

 

 

Slap it on

No, not the sun tan lotion, at least not yet, a slap on bracelet designed and created by you.

All you need are one of those metal lined slap bracelets children love so much, a crochet hook, some yarn and away you go.

These are a couple (not finished yet), that we made on Saturday. We've a few spare bracelets in the shop if you fancy having a go.

Flower Power at the WI

 I was very pleased to be asked to attend a local WI group last night who had approached me with a view to my giving a talk. Never comfortable standing talking, I managed to negotiate a more hands on approach and we had a wonderful evening making corsages.

I demonstrated 2 methods, and then the ladies quickly got down to work making their own.

The rolled felt roses we made from the remains of felted sweaters. This gives a quite different look from using machine made flat felt.

The melted edge technique used on the satin corsages was one they hadn't seen before, but they bravely risked singed fingers in a bid to make beautiful flowers.

Flowers ranged in size, shape and colour but were all extremely pretty.

Thank you ladies, I thoroughly enjoyed arming you with a new string to your already very creative bows.
